Owning a vehicle is not cheap. You may be able to save money by riding public transportation, but the city bus is not nearly as convenient. Unavoidable expenses include fueling up and paying car insurance in Utah. Drivers can however keep some costs down by keeping up with the maintenance for their vehicles. Regular oil changes are required to keep your car running its best, but you may be able to cut the price in half by doing it yourself.

Changing your vehicle’s oil is a pretty simply job. You will need a wrench to remove the filter, a drain pan to catch the discarded oil, a new filter, and some oil. To find out the type of filter and oil your car requires, simply check your owner’s manual. You may even find diagrams and directions for oil changes with the booklet.

The first thing you do is remove the oil fill cap from under the hood. Then from under the car, unscrew the drain plug. Use the pan to catch the falling oil. By leaving it to drip for an hour, you can ensure all the old liquid is out of the system. Replace the old filter with the new one and screw the drain plug back in. Add oil under the hood and place the oil fill cap back in position.

While running and maintaining a vehicle can be costly, so too can not having the right level of car insurance in Utah. Drivers without collision or theft coverage run the risk of having to pay to replace their vehicles after accident or theft. Are you running the risk? Why not ask us for a quote on collision and comprehensive coverage?
